Thymolphthalein's scientific name is "3,3-bis(4-hydroxy-5-isopropyl-2-methylphenyl)-phthalide", which is an organic reagent. The chemical formula is C28H30O4, and the molecular weight is 430.54. For example, an indicator made by mixing a 0.1% ethanol solution of this reagent with a 0.1% ethanol solution of phenolphthalein is colorless in an acidic solution, purple in an alkaline solution, and rose at pH 9.9 (color change point), which is very easy to observe.
