Sodium molybdate, formula Na2MoO4. Molecular weight 205.92. White diamond crystal. Opaque white crystal. Melting point 687℃, relative density 3.2818. Dissolve in water. Dihydrate can be obtained by crystallization from aqueous solution (alkaline solution with pH higher than 8). The latter is a white rhombohedral crystal. MoO42- ions exist as regular tetrahedrons with a relative density of 3.28. When heated to 100℃, 2 molecules of water are lost to obtain anhydrous substance, easily soluble in water, soluble in 1.7 parts cold water and about 0.9 parts boiling water. 5% aqueous solution at 25℃ pH 9.0 ~ 10.0, insoluble in ethyl acetate. By gradually adding acid to the sodium molybdate solution and reducing the pH of the solution, the molybdate can be polymerized into a variety of polymolybdate salts, including sodium dimolybdate, sodium trimolybdate, sodium paramolybdate, sodium octamolybdate and sodium decamolybdate.

Sodium molybdate is sodium molybdate, used as a metal corrosion inhibitor, scale removal agent, bleaching promoter and skin and hair protective agent, used as an analytical reagent for alkaloid determination, dyes and pharmaceutical industry; Sodium molybdate can be used in the manufacture of alkaloids, ink, fertilizer, molybdenum red pigment and fast pigment precipitant, catalyst, molybdenum salt, can also be used in the manufacture of flame retardants and non-pollution type cold water system of metal inhibitors, also used as galvanizing, polishing agent and chemical reagents.
