Polyethylene CAS 9002-88-4
Polyethylene is a saturated hydrocarbon with a structure similar to paraffin, which is a high molecular weight synthetic material made by polymerizing ethylene. Polyethylene molecules have no polarity genes, low water absorption, and good stability. Insoluble in ordinary solvents at room temperature, stable to alcohols, ethers, ketones, esters, weak acids, and weak bases. But it can swell in fatty hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and halogenated hydrocarbons, be corroded by strong oxygen-containing acids, and undergo oxidation when heated or illuminated in air.
