What is Natamycin CAS 7681-93-8?

Natamycin is a nearly white to creamy yellow powder, almost odorless and tasteless. Can contain 3mol of water. Melting point 280 ℃ (decomposition). Very insoluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol, soluble in glacial acetic acid and dimethyl sulfoxide.

Application

Natamycin is an antifungal polyene antibiotic that inhibits fungal growth by specifically binding to ergosterol. Unlike nystatin and Philippine mycin, natamycin does not alter the permeability of cell membranes.
