Cycloalkanoic acid, also known as petroleum acid, usually has only one carboxyl group and possesses the properties of a carboxylic acid. It can form salts with metals, such as cobalt cycloalkanoate. NAPHTHENIC ACID is almost insoluble in water, but soluble in petroleum ether, ethanol, benzene, and hydrocarbons.
