Application

N-Methyltaurine is only found in red algae in nature, and it is formed by methylating taurine. It is suitable for esterification with long-chain carboxylic acids (actually the formation of amides) to produce taurine esters, as it has high polarity and its alkaline earth metal salts are quite soluble. Its alkaline earth metal salts are also used as anionic surfactants.
