N-Isopropylacrylamide CAS 2210-25-5
N-Isopropylacrylamide (N-isopropylacrylamide) is a white crystalline solid at room temperature and pressure. It is soluble in water and miscible with common organic solvents. The substance contains a single substituted double bond in its molecular structure, which can be used as a polymer monomer and is mostly used to construct polymer. N-isopropylacrylamide is also a biocompatible monomer unit that can be used to form stimulus-responsive polymers due to its temperature-sensitive properties, including volume and consequent temperature changes.

N-isopropylacrylamide is an acrylamide derivative monomer. Due to the presence of hydrophilic amide group and hydrophobic isopropyl group in the molecule, its homopolymer has a low critical solution temperature and other good characteristics. It is mainly used in the manufacture of temperature-sensitive polymer gels, such as: drug controlled release materials, enzyme solid materials, dehydrating agents, concentrating agents, etc. It can also be used to manufacture denatured rubber Chemicalbook milk, special coatings, adhesives and so on. N-isopropylacrylamide is used to prepare poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPA, pNIPAAm, pNIPAm) heat sensitive polymers or copolymer hydrogels. Polymers containing NIPAM shrink sharply at temperatures above 33°C. The monomer is used to prepare heat-sensitive, water-expandable hydrogels.
