Magnesium acetate, also known as "magnesium acetate". Chemical formula Mg (C2H3O2) 2. The molecular weight is 142.4. White or colorless crystals. Melt at 323 ℃ and decompose simultaneously. Relative density 1.42, easily deliquescent, highly soluble in water, neutral in water, and also soluble in methanol and ethanol. Magnesium carbonate can be dissolved in acetic acid aqueous solution, filtered, and the filtrate is naturally evaporated in a concentrated sulfuric acid dryer to precipitate tetrahydrate. It is then heated to constant weight at 130 ℃ to produce magnesium acetate.

Magnesium acetate is used for printing and dyeing, as well as analytical reagents and catalysts for olefin polymerization. The LD50 for intravenous injection into mice is 18mg/kg. Magnesium acetate is widely used in different fields. In chemical laboratories, it is commonly used as a preservative and corrosion inhibitor for magnesium metal. Magnesium acetate is also used as a supplement to magnesium, providing the body with the necessary magnesium element. It can also be used as a catalyst, desiccant, and agent for removing magnesium oxide.
