Benzyl salicylate has a boiling point of 300 ℃ and a melting point of 24-26 ℃. Soluble in ethanol, most non-volatile and volatile oils, slightly soluble in propylene glycol, insoluble in glycerol, and almost insoluble in water. The natural product of Benzyl salicylate is contained in ylang ylang oil, carnations, etc.

Benzyl salicylate is often used as cosolvent and good fixative for floral and non floral essence. It is suitable for essence such as carnation, ylang ylang, jasmine, vanilla, lily of the valley, lilac, tuberose, and hundred flowers. It can also be used in a very small amount in apricots, peaches, plums, bananas, raw pears and other edible essence.
